Problem: Whenever you start Microbreak the software it will ask you to activate and even if you activate successfully, next time you start it will ask to activate again.
This problem can occur if you have tried to license as administrator user and then not activated, but then try to activate the software as standard (non administrator) user. This is for Windows.
Note that this FAQ will assume that you have administrator rights on your computer and that you are familiar with the RegEdit tool.
What you should have done is to both license and activate the software as administrator user. The problem is that now you may have the same license key stored twice on your computer, once in the HKLM (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) part of the registry and once in the HKCU (HKEY_CURRENT_USER) part of the registry and the program will pick up the incorrect license key when it starts.
Solution: You have to remove all license keys for Microbreak from your computer and license again, and activate but as administrator user.
The license is stored in 2 keys called "NodeLockedLicenseKey" and "NodeLockedLicenseKeyDate" in the HKCU\SOFTWARE\BioSilico\MicroBreak\2.1 and HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\BioSilico\MicroBreak\2.1.
To remove the licenses follow these steps:
- Launch RegEdit and go to the
following folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\BioSilico\MicroBreak\2.1.
- Remove any keys called
“NodeLockedLicenseKey” and “NodeLockedLicenseKeyDate”.
- Quit Regedit.
- Then log out and log in as
admin user.
- Repeat steps 1 and 2
- go to the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\BioSilico\MicroBreak\2.1
- Remove any keys called “NodeLockedLicenseKey” and “NodeLockedLicenseKeyDate”.
If you have followed the steps above you now have removed any Microbreak license key from your computer. Don’t worry you will reactivate
below.
Now follow these steps to license and reactivate:
- Remain logged in as
admin user.
- Start Microbreak. It will come up with the
licensing wizard dialog.
- Use the license key you have
received.
- Go through the activation
procedure (use “online activation”, or if you cannot use “website activation”
and then use copy&paste to copy the activation key back into the program).
Note that the activation key is NOT the same as the license key. The activation
key is a 48 character string.
- Once you have activated it
is important that you Quit the program (locate the Microbreak icon in the task
bar, right click onto it and select Quit). This then should save the
key in the HKLM part of the registry.
- You can then log out and log
in as standard user and restart Microbreak which should pick up the license
from HKLM.
This should have fixed the issue.
